Strengthening Waste Governance as a Driver of the Circular Economy

September 8 @ 12:30 pm - September 9 @ 5:00 pm

The Indonesian Business Council convenes a two-day workshop on 8 and 9 September 2026 to turn waste management reform into practical tools for local governments. IBC will present its White Paper, “Building a Waste Management System that Delivers,” which finds that each rupiah spent on better waste handling returns Rp4.61 in economic benefit by 2045, higher than many comparable public policies.

In 2025, 336 of Indonesia’s 514 regencies and cities were declared in waste emergency, and Bappenas projects up to Rp638 trillion in lost GDP by 2030 if the circular economy transition stalls. The Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs, the Ministry of Public Works, and the Ministry of Home Affairs will set policy direction, while IBC facilitates local governments in co-creating an implementation toolkit.
